It's Spring Break in Maine which always makes me start working on summer plans. Time goes quickly from now until the end of school. A few educators have asked about local summer learning opportunities.  Here are a few that I know about in the New England area. If you have some to add please put them in the comment section.

• Teachers will explore the use of iPads and apps that support student learning, collaboration, and communication. Apps are providing new ways for students and teachers to use touch screens as well as recording video and audio. Teachers who attend this course will learn ways to change their teaching to include Apps during instruction as well as ways for students to demonstrate learning by creating products on the iPad.

• 21st Century Teaching and Learning with Technology; University of Southern Maine
• In our technology-driven, globally diverse world, students are consuming and producing many forms of electronic media. How do we develop teaching strategies for the 21st Century classroom given changing ideas about literacy? This course is designed for K-12 educators looking to integrate an array of current digital technology skills with core academic subjects. #usmepc512

• Mac Computer in the Digital Classroom; University of Southern Maine
• Educators will become familiar with digital technology tools and their use to enhance learning, engage students, and integrate 21st century skills in the classroom. Software components will include the iLife suite (iPhoto, Safari, iTunes etc.) online tools, and Internet resources. Topics to be covered will be web page publishing, blogs, podcasts and project based learning activities.

• 14 - 15 Google Apps for Education Maine Summit, Yarmouth, ME.
• 18 - 20 Technology for Innovation in Education; Tilton Academy, Tilton, NH
• The focus of this year's conference will once again be Google Apps for Education (GAFE).  The conference will be August 18-20.  The first two days will be aimed at anyone interested in or currently using GAFE with students in the classroom and the third day will be aimed at GAFE domain administrators.

USMEPC512: 21st Century Teaching and Learning with Technology

I just finished a week of learning and teaching with this group at the University of Southern Maine. This is a picture of our new learning community. It's quite a feat to work from 8:00 - 4:00 5 days in a row. But this group was amazing! They are made up of elementary, middle and high school teachers. One participant has been teaching for 48 years! One of his former students was also in the class! We kept each other hydrated, happy, helped and remembered to have fun. Thanks to this amazing group of educators for taking on the challenge. I loved learning with all of you and now have some great ideas to take back to my school. 21st Century Teaching and Learning with Technology

A new course is being offered at University of Southern Maine

WORKSHOP TOPICS

• Searching, Researching, and Managing Online Information

• Adding Digital Media to Writing and Presentations of Learning

• Learning Together Online

• Assistive Technology for RTI and Universal Design for Learning

• Problem-solving and Real World Learning

This series of workshops can be taken singly (0.5 CEUs each - 3.0 CEUs all five) or combined into a 3 Credit Inservice Graduate Credit Course. Each workshop consists of a Saturday session for 4 hours followed by 1.5 hours of online assignments and a wrap-up session on a subsequent Saturday for 2 hours. This series is designed for educators looking to expand their use of digital technology to include innovative learning explorations.

Inservice Graduate Credit Course Option

EPS 512 21st Century Teaching and Learning with Technology

Participants may take all 5 workshops as a single 500-level inservice graduate course. This option must be chosen prior to beginning the workshop series. In addition to the workshop meeting dates/times, 10 hours of additional online course work will be required to receive graduate credit.

What a rockin' class! I worked with 7 superstars this past week. 7 wonderful teachers that gave up a week of summer to drink from a fire hose. It can be hard to process so much information (especially when it's 1 semester packed in to a week), but you graciously took it all in stride. It's so great that we have folks like you that are working in and soon to be entering Maine classrooms. What lucky students! And I learned so much from you. You blog posts and final reflections keep encouraging me to continue the crusade for great teaching and learning using technology. I hope to continue the conversation.
