Five Research-Driven Education Trends At Work in Classrooms | MindShift
"Increasingly, educators are looking to research about how kids learn to influence teaching practices and tools. What seemed like on-the-fringe experiments, like game-based learning, have turned into real trends, and have gradually made their way into many (though certainly not most) classrooms."

7 Characteristics of A Digitally Competent Teacher - Edudemic
"What does being a ‘digitally competent’ teacher mean? Does it mean using laptops, smartphones, or tablets in your classroom? Does it mean finding new and interesting ways to use those devices along with apps and web tools? What level of expertise with technology constitutes ‘competent’? Or does the concept encompass more than that? Do things like digital citizenship, acceptable use policies, digital footprints, and privacy concerns ring a bell."

A+ Writing Research Paper Guide includes a step-by-step guide to researching and writing a paper, an information search guide, and links to online resources. Step by Step Research & Writing recognizes that writing a research paper is only half the labor. Exploring subjects, locating information, analyzing issues, and organizing arguments require different skills than writing. Six steps prepare students to: understand an assignment, choose a topic, narrow the focus, gather information to support a topic, form a thesis statement, and finally write and revise the paper.

HistoryWorld - History and Timelines
HistoryWorld features interactive narratives from Aegean Civilization to Zoroastrianism and 10,000 events on searchable timelines. The website could be used to supplement social studies textbooks for grades 5-8.
tags: Curriculum:SocialStudies
- HistoryWorld is run by a board of five directors. Four of us spent three years, from 1998 to 2001, planning the launch of the site. We acquired our first round of investors early in 2001, at which time we appointed our non-executive director, Sir Kit McMa - post by Arief Wicaksono

NEA - Culturally-Situated Design Tools
"Culturally-Situated Design Tools: Teaching Math and Computing through Culture provides cultural background, tutorials, and software to help students in grades 1-12 learn math and computing principles as they reproduce original artifacts and create their own. Projects from African, African American, youth subculture, Native American, and Latino culture are featured. (Note: The website applets run best with Chrome and a screen resolution of 1024 X 768 or higher and require up-to-date java and flash plug-ins.)"

EduCore - Tools for Teaching the Common Core - ASCD
EduCore: Tools for Teaching the Common Core are ASCD tools and professional development resources to help teachers implement Common Core State Standards. Search by keyword and filter by channel, grade level, math, literacy, and resource type. For example, a search for “algebra” that is filtered by “math tools” (channel), “9-12” (grade level), and “problem solving” (math) produces 8 resources: classroom challenges, videos, and a web resource. Educators can register for free to save searches, organize tools, and add notes.

WatchKnowLearn - Free Educational Videos for K-12 Students
WatchKnowLearn has organized thousands of free K-12 educational video clips in all subjects for teachers, students, and parents. So far, grade K-6 videos have been aligned to Common Core State Standards. Grades 7 and 8 are under construction. Resources can be located with a keyword search or browsed by subject area. Clicking a subject to browse provides subcategories and subsequent subcategories. Resources can be filtered by age, although the age selection mechanism is unusual: ranging 1-18 to 18.
