David Truss :: Pair-a-dimes for Your Thoughts » 7 Ways to Transform Your Classroom
"I’ll be talking about Inquiry Learning inspired by our new Inquiry Hub school, (more on the school here and here). However, the Inquiry Hub has deconstructed the school day, getting rid of class blocks and it also provides online blended learning opportunities that most schools simply could not duplicate. That said, much of what we are doing can be done in any classroom. So here are seven key aspects we are exploring at the Inquiry Hub that can help transform any classroom into a more engaging, and student-empowered learning space."

Creating a New Vision for Education Inspiring Education presents a new vision for education which includes values, principles, and a framework for the development of policy and governance. Inspiring Education is informed by the four UNESCO pillars for learning—learning to be, learning to know, learning to do, and learning to live together. While it is aligned with the international perspective expressed by UNESCO, Inspiring Education goes beyond it to reflect distinctive Alberta values and aspirations, as well as our place in a changing global economy.

MacOSaiX for Mac - CNET Download.com
"MacOSaiX lets you create a mosaic representation of an image from hundreds or thousands of individual images. The individual images can be found on local disks, created randomly from fonts, found by keyword through Google's or flickr's image database, pulled from iPhoto or pulled from QuickTime movies. You can also choose rectangles, hexagons or puzzle pieces as the shapes of the tiles in the mosaic. MacOSaiX will automatically determine the best location in the mosaic for each image. When you are done you can save the mosaic as a JPG, PNG or TIFF for printing or save it as an interactive web page."

Mr. Khan is not the only one asking that question these days. Clay Shirky, an associate teacher at New York University and a popular Internet guru, recently challenged his more than 50,000 Twitter followers with a similar thought exercise: "If you were going to create a college from scratch, what would you do?" Bursts of creativity quickly Twittered in, and Mr. Shirky collected and organized the responses on a Web site. The resulting visions are either dreams of an education future or nightmares, depending on your viewpoint: All students should be required to teach as well, said @djstrouse. Limit tenure to eight years, argued @jakewk. Have every high-school senior take a year before college to work in some kind of service project away from his or her hometown, said @alicebarr.

YouTube brings interactive quizzes to videos with Questions Editor beta -- Engadget
"YouTube brings interactive quizzes to videos with Questions Editor beta" A new page on the YouTube site describes a "Video Questions Editor Beta," which lets channel owners display multiple-choice questions on top of their videos as they play. The page is pretty blank at the moment, but the beta is up and running for those who opt in. Don't get too excited, though: YouTube's disclaimer states the feature "represents work in progress," and "there is no plan for long-term support of the feature."

You Just Never Know!
Fast forward to today. Cherrie has visited some of the classrooms she Skyped with, been the finalist for the ACTEM teacher of the year, and Skyped with Michelle Obama. Last week she invited the first lady form Maine, Anne LePage and Barbara Bush, a Maine summer resident, to join her 3rd grades via Skype to kick off the opening of school and their project. There was a big surprise for both Cherrie and the students....
This was first broadcast on local TV, but was picked up by CNN. It is such fun to see Cherrie's continued energy and growth with this project! Way to go Cherrie! Your students are so lucky!

So we bring you this helpful guide to fonts, typefaces, and all that comes with it. It’s a quick look at the anatomy of type, the differences and similarities, and how each one works. Enjoy!"
