Twitter 101: Why Use Hashtags? - AllTwitter
"A hashtag is really just a way of categorizing your tweets so that they are part of a narrowed conversation and they’re easier to find in Twitter search. Of course, there’s a lot more to it than that, or else hashtags wouldn’t have been the most popular trending topic in 2010."

Cisco Blog » Blog Archive » The Internet of Things [INFOGRAPHIC]
When we think of being connected to the Internet, our minds immediately shift to our computers, phones, and most recently tablets. This week at Cisco live, I shared that in 2008, the number of devices connected to the Internet exceeded the number of people on Earth.
That’s right. There are more devices tapping into the Internet than people on Earth to use them. How is this possible?
The infographic below provides a visual representation of the increase in “things” connected to the Internet. With this increase, how will you prepare your network for the future?tags: INFOGRAPHIC internet future usmepc512

Home | Leafsnap: An Electronic Field Guide
Leafsnap is the first in a series of electronic field guides being developed by researchers from Columbia University, the University of Maryland, and the Smithsonian Institution. This free mobile app uses visual recognition software to help identify tree species from photographs of their leaves.
Leafsnap contains beautiful high-resolution images of leaves, flowers, fruit, petiole, seeds, and bark. Leafsnap currently includes the trees of New York City and Washington, D.C., and will soon grow to include the trees of the entire continental United States.
This website shows the tree species included in Leafsnap, the collections of its users, and the team of research volunteers working to produce it.tags: curriculum:Science

Fluid Environments for Teaching, Learning, and Technology
Help students shift from being passive receivers to active readers, evaluators, thinkers, and innovators. Explore the potential of emerging cross-genre, multi-platform, transmedia resources as tools for motivation, differentiation, collaboration, and connections across the curriculum. Help students construct knowledge and convey complex messages through meaningful, technology-enhanced experiences.
Students move from reading the book The Search for Wondla by Tony DiTerlizzi to exploring the website to playing the iPad app... With so many information resources and new tools available, it's easy to experience information overload, Web 2.0 frustration, class management concerns, and time constraints. The solution is organized access to technology, varied approaches, collaborative activities, and choice in learning. -
Infographics in the Classroom as a Creative Assessment - ISTE 2011 Conference Ning
Kathy Shrock
Purpose & Objectives
The purpose of this presentation is to showcase infographics as a way to both demonstrate content acquisition as well as meet the NETS*S standards for use of technology as the way to communicate a message.
The presentation will show how infographics are created and concentrate on the student skills necessary to research, critique, summarize, and communicate information in a visual way to reach their audience. The infographic combines the areas of visual literacy, content literacy, information literacy, and computer literacy, and truly is a 21st century assessment!
Sample infographics will be shown, including exemplars created by teachers, and the entire set of skills necessary to create an engaging and useful infographic will be covered.
Infographics employ the use of technology tools and programs to create them, but the infographic itself can be created to demonstrate mastery of any content area. The infographic can be used as either a formative and summative assessment.tags: infographics ISTE11

Conference organiser's handbook
"So you want to organise a conference. Great; do it. It’s a lot of work, but it’s also very rewarding, and it will put your city on the map for your topic.
I assume you have visited a few conferences, maybe spoken at some, but have organised none. Thus you’ll have a pretty good idea of what you want to achieve, but haven’t yet found out about all the little details that make a good conference a great one. That’s what this handbook is going to teach you."tags: conference organiztion
