This project is modeled after Parkland School Division's (Alberta, Canada) 184 Days of Learning Blog and it is intended to share some of the stories from the Burlington Public Schools for the 2012-2013 school year. Through this project we hope to share the voices of Burlington Public Schools and how we are a community of learners enjoying our journey together.

"Evaluating the information you find is a key critical thinking skill. This page introduces specific criteria that you can use to go beyond a gut feeling that a website or article is "good" or "bad." The memorably named C.R.A.P. test (Currency, Reliability, Authority, and Purpose/Point of view) is a tool for backing up your judgement with a clear explanation of WHY a source is good or bad depending on what you'll use it for.
Sanborn Regional High School has been acknowledged by Bramonte and Colby (2012) as a leader in a movement from traditional to competency-based grading for all courses in the State of New Hampshire. A “competency” is the ability of a student to apply content knowledge and skills in and/or across the content area(s). At Sanborn, all courses use a competency-based grading system. By this, it is meant that assignments are linked back to the competencies that they are designed to assess and student performance is reported in a way that tracks student mastery of the competencies that have been identified for each course. This shift in focus allows the school to use report cards and transcripts to more accurately report what it is a student knows and is able to do.
